PMI

Positive Material Identification (PMI) is the analysis of a metallic alloy to establish composition by reading the quantities, by percentage, of its constituent elements. Typical methods for PMI include X-ray fluorescence  (XRF) and optical emission spectrometry (OES).

For petroleum and petrochemical refining facilities, the emphasis on safety and accident prevention has never been greater, with increased public scrutiny, stepped-up industrial safety regulations and more stringent OSHA oversight and fines.  This means that PMI in alloys used throughout the physical plant is no longer a choice, but a necessity. Simply relying on spot-testing of parts and sub-assemblies is too risky and totally unacceptable. Today's best practices include 100% positive material testing of all critical materials.

At Bluelimit we provide all of the PMI inspection services needed to meet our clients’ stringent requirements – and more. Nothing is left to chance in keeping plant and facilities in safe, fully functioning condition, with the minimum of down-time and disruption. As with our other non-destructive testing techniques, we don’t try to impress by cutting corners – and our clients thank us for it.
